Hair Salon
〰
People say I’m a bit extreme carrying my medium format camera when going to buy cigarettes at night. I tell them you never know when an amazing shot will pop up in the next corner. I give them this example:
An alley at night. Light comes from a house. Turns out is a hair salon. It seems like a scene happening in the late ’60s. Magical, surreal. The place is next to my house but I’ve never seen it before. I crank my camera, frame as quickly as possible before they notice me, and get the shot. The mirror slap makes it official. I want to get another one just in case but that frame was the last one of the roll. I look at the salon one last time to record the setting in my memory, then I leave. I was on my way to buy milk because I’d run out of it while making a latte at home. Luckily I always carry my medium format camera.
